GalgamĂĄcsa is situated in Pest county, in a sloping and pictoresque district within the Southern spurs of the CserhĂĄt mountains and hilly country of GĂśdĂśllĹ, at a 40 km distance northeast from Budapest.
The village is one of the noteworthy settlements of the Galga region, preserving its traditions till today.
Here, the older generation is still wearing the traditional national costumes, and has saved their special folk songs, fairy-tales, stories and legends.
The most famous person of the village is surely JulĂł VankĂłnĂŠ, born DudĂĄs (1919-1984), naive paintress of peasant origin, who perpetuated the national customs of her village.
A smaller share of her paintings is available on the main street - in the house named after her. In the building of the village museum besides those, a rich collection of rural agricultural tools are exhibited.
